Phase 1 (23,214 parse-valid trials across six open-weight models, published 21 July 2026, DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/8BXZW) found that culturally legible signals shift agent selection above operational parity. Study 2, currently in pre-registration, tests something narrower and more commercial: whether a vendor whose record resolves in an independent third-party registry is selected over an otherwise identical competitor at matched price. **What it does not test.** Neither study tests give-before-ask, trust compounding across transactions, or signal travel through networks. Those are the three components of the Doughnut Principle itself, and they remain untested. In Phase 1 the most literal test of the gesture, a bare doughnut-signal condition, was selected in 61.4% of trials, below a plain £5 credit. The philosophy on this site is a commercial argument.
